XARION
Ultrasonic testing, without ever touching the part
The technology
XARION's Laser-Excited Acoustics (LEA) rethinks ultrasonic testing: a pulsed laser generates an ultrasound wave directly inside the part, and XARION's optical microphone — a membrane-free detector — picks it up from a distance. Nothing touches the surface and there is no water bath or coupling gel, so an inspection that normally lives in an immersion tank moves straight onto the production line. It matches the sensitivity and resolution of standard liquid-coupled ultrasonic testing, resolves sub-millimetre internal defects and delamination, scans at up to 2000 mm/s, and stays robust against misalignment in stand-off and angle.
Where it’s used
- Composite QC — monolithic CFRP and honeycomb-sandwich structures
- Delamination, porosity and internal-defect detection
- Adhesive-bond and disbond testing
- Aerospace composites and battery inspection
- Inline, contactless ultrasonic testing at production speed
